When we are on a strict diet often its too much hard work to stay on it, that after a few weeks we fall off the wagon, and usually end up back where we started from. We usually have the right intentions, but often we are in a rush to lose the weight and feel better about ourselves.

Obesity is a problem striking every part of the world. In the East End of Britain, one out of every 10 children is obese. The obesity rate has grown world wide in the last decade, reading to high disease and mortality rate. Diseases are striking at an even lower age. The only solution is to ensuring that you are healthy and slim. I am not referring to being slim in order to look beautiful. I am talking about being slim in order to stay healthy and prevent some of the most dreadful diseases that are hitting even our youth today.

Sometimes its very hard to do the right thing to lose weight. We read about 15 diets, read about 20 articles on cardio, 40 ways to lift weights and by the end of it. You just feel that none of them are achievable and you settle down to doing nothing about your weight since everything looks impossible.
Losing weight is not difficult. It is fairly easy if you have the right attitude. You got to be willing to take action. We know that regular exercise will help us to improve our mood, relieve stress, increase energy levels, help to maintain or lose weight and prevent disease just to name a few. The benefits are so important that the government has gone as far as setting guidelines to how much exercise individuals should be doing.
The government recommends that people exercise five times per week for 30 minutes at a moderate intensity for general health; however, studies have proven that vigorous activity 3-5 times a week for at least 20 minutes is what you need to attain maximum health benefits and increase longevity.

In today's busy world where people are juggling work life, home life and a social life, there is little time left for any kind of exercise regardless of it being moderate or vigorous. Or is this lack of time just an EXCUSE to be lazy? After all 20-30 minutes really isn't that long. Our definition of beauty has been defined and redefined ever so often. However, one of the most common definitions of beautiful is being lean or shall we call it slim. According to studies, the most common problem plaguing all the countries of the world today is obesity. It is a widespread problem. The one positive thing about this disease is the fact that it is possible to get rid off. You need not die of it, should you take the right precautions. Some of you may think, oh I'm just a bit overweight, nothings going to happen to me. I won't die. You are highly mistaken. The first step towards ridding your self of this potentially life taking disease is to recognize that you are over weight and need help. Overweight leads to obesity and very often obesity leads to life threatening diseases. Most heart attacks are caused due to obesity. Diabetes is another growing disease and obesity plays a major part in it. So find out from your doctor about what your ideal weight should be, if your even 2 pounds more than that, I suggest you start shedding those extra pounds.
By performing your daily activities everyday, you shed some calories. However, it takes the burning of an additional 3500 calories over the amount of calories you shed everyday, for you to start losing weight. Sounds like you have a long day cut out for you. It is the simplest of things that can make the greatest of changes. Your diet and exercise could be the key towards ensuring you have a good, long, healthy life.
Learn to keep a watch over your calorie consumption per day. Check the calories for whatever you eat during a day. When a client comes to me wanting to lose weight, what they really desire is to take up less space - fitting into a smaller size of jeans for example. And while there's a good chance that you will lose scale weight, would you be satisfied if you gained muscle, remained at your current bodyweight and yet ended up a few sizes smaller?
Muscle weights heavier and takes up less room than body fat! Five pounds of fat takes up much more space (volume) than five pounds of muscle. For example, someone who weighs 150 pounds (68kgs) with 19% body fat will look much smaller than someone who weights 150 pounds and has 35% body fat. Even though they weigh the same, their body composition is different. And because muscle is more dense than fat, the person with less fat and more muscle will look and be, smaller!
Muscle is metabolically active!
As well as the beneficial cosmetic changes, studies have shown that for every pound of muscle you add to your body, you'll burn up to 50 calories more per day! So, if you were to add an extra 10 pounds of muscle, you'd burn up to 500 cals more per day, or an extra pound of fat every 7 to 10 days, without making any other changes!
Therein lies a very important point. Muscle is metabolically active. Fat is not. Even at rest, muscle tissue requires energy - enough to significantly enhance your metabolism and the rate at which your body burns calories from day to day.
On the flip side of the coin, if you lost weight while following a diet without including some form of resistance training, two things would most likely occur.
First, at least half the weight you would lose would be muscle. And this causes number two! - A slowed metabolism and the inability to burn body fat as efficiently. This results in progress grinding to a halt, and often leads to gaining all the weight back. (This also happens to be the most common scenario with commercial weight loss programmes.) Regardless of whether you're a man or a woman, building muscle is VERY beneficial.

Long Term Goals
Depending on your preference, you could set a hard-and-fast long term goal that is based on actual figures to your weight loss. Or, if you like, you could even keep your long term goal as a more general desire to attain a certain look or build.
Of course, it is worth noting that if you add actual figures to your goal, it will give you something a lot more tangible to work towards, and challenge yourself while you do so.
Just spend a few minutes thinking about what you really want to attain from your weight loss, and then devise it into a goal. Try to make it something that is truly worth achieving, to you, at least, so that if you do end up hitting your target, you'll feel that glow of accomplishment.
Do not set long term goals that can really be achieved with little or no effort.
Also, while you're at it, keep in mind that there is one other type of goal that is going to be intertwined with this long term goal. Let's discuss that now...
Short Term Goals
As the name well implies, short term goals are the variety of goals that can be achieved over a shorter span of time.
So instead of going by year, or half-years, your short term goals would probably be weekly, biweekly, or even monthly. Really, the choice of span is up to you at the end of the day, so choose something that you're comfortable with.
Some people like to constantly have something to measure their performance against, but when it comes to weight loss, weekly results might be slightly unreasonable.
Still, whatever span is chosen, there is one thing in particular about short term goals that really does tie in to the long term goals that we just discussed. And this is nothing other than the fact that your short term goals should be geared towards hitting your long term goal.

Don't Forget the Kids
