The dog needs walking so go as a family and makes it a time when you can also interact and get to know what is going on at school or with friends. Visit the local park or if you can get out into the country, you can devise your own nature trail and list all the different species of flora and fauna, follow the animal trails, hold races between the trees.
Or if you can get to the coast search for shells and fossils on the beach, get them to run back to you each time they make a find, make these fun activities part of your family routine. If your journey is too long to make on foot when you visit friends or family, park a mile away and walk with the kids, and remember it is doing you good too.

Get a group of their friends over to play in your garden and provide them with hula hoops, skipping ropes, a mini trampoline will set you back no more than the latest video game and you can sneak a go your self when no one is looking! Just trying to keep a balloon in the air on a breezy day can use bundles of energy and burn of hundreds of calories. Involve other parents and take it in turns to play host and don't forget to join in! Encourage walking or cycling to and from school and remember that children don't have to be involved in competitive sport if they are not sporty but all kids love to play. You can help them be happy healthy kids and all they will have is fun and so will you!
